Matthew Schneider

is one of the most versatile bassist and multi-instrumentalists on the New York scene having worked in classical music, jazz, rock and commercial TV studio recording.  A graduate of Oberlin Conservatory and Purchase College Conservatory of Music, Matthew served as Principal Bassist with the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra, Knoxville City Opera, Brooklyn Symphony Orchestra and at several festivals including Aspen, Spoleto, and Cape May.  He has also performed at jazz festivals and venues throughout the United States including the Blue Note and Apollo Theater in New York City.  Matthew is currently working as a bassist/cellist/vocalist for songwriter Roger Street Friedman, bass player for the Manhattan-based electric jazz group Level 5 and co-leading the jazz band Meridian.

In addition to performing, Matthew served as an orchestra and jazz band teacher in the public school system for ten years.  In 2013, he founded Sea Cliff Music, Inc. through which he currently teaches private music lessons at his studio and conducts the SummerStrings! RockFest, a summer performance program for young musicians.

Concurrent with his musical activities, Matthew is an avid yoga practitioner and also a Masters degree candidate at the New Jersey campus of the Boston Graduate School of Modern Psychoanalysis.   He finds his training in Modern Psychoanalysis to be an invaluable resource in helping students achieve their full potential.
